Experience an African safari at
least once in your life
There is nothing quite like
heading out into the African bush, visiting the many and varied wildlife on
offer. If you are planning on visiting the Big Five, several African
countries offer you the best experience possible. In case you dont
know, the Big Five consists of African lion, African elephant, Cape
buffalo, African leopard, and White or Black rhinoceros, a fascinating
group of animals if ever there was one.

When choosing a location, Signature
Safaris offers some of the best trips on offer, giving anyone the
change to live at one with nature and experience the wide open spaces of
Africa, while staying in luxury and comfort.
Lets
have a brief look at jsut a few of the best locations in Africa for an
adventure safari, alphabetically and in no particular order of preference,
as each country has its own unique experiences to offer.
Botswana
Botswana
offers a varied safari experience where visitors can experience a
combination of desert, savannah, saltpan and wetland areas. Around 80
percent of the country is taken up by the Kalahari Desert which offers a
stark and beautiful experience.
Chobe
National Park is a must-see, offering the largest population of elephants
anywhere in the world along with lions, hyena, jackals, cheetah and even
wild dogs.

The Okavango Delta is a place to
experience the very best in African sunsets. Part of the Kalahari Basin and
in the south of the Great Rift Valley, the Delta is a patchwork of lagoons,
clear streams, forested islands and floodplains. The dry winter season is
the best to visit this fascinating area when the wildlife flock here to
enjoy the water and a huge number of different species are waiting to be
seen and photographed.
Malawi
Justifiably
known as the Warm Heart of Africa, not only for the weather but
for its friendly people, Malawi offers an excellent safari experience. Africa’s
smallest country, Malawi is situated on the Great Rift Valley and is
dominated by Lake Malawi, a beautiful expanse of water with golden sandy
beaches. The Lake Malawi National Park is a World Heritage Site for the
protection of its many freshwater fish.

While not a safari experience as
such, it’s worth visiting Likoma Island while on the lake where you can
visit the third largest cathedral in Africa, St Peters Cathedral a
rather surreal experience in the middle of the African bush and waters of
the lake. Visiting the island also offers a cultural experience where you
can meet the fishermen who make their living on Lake Malawi.
The
country also offers excellent wildlife parks including Majete Wildlife
Reserve, a relatively unspoiled and tourist-free experience which gives the
feeling of an expedition into the wild African bush, rather than the usual
safari experience. This park offers the Big Five along with several
other fascinating species.
Tanzania
Tanzania
has several National Parks on offer, along with beautiful sandy beaches, lined
with palm trees. However, what the country is possibly most famous for is
the amazing Serengeti. These vast and open plains are home to a huge
number of animals including wildebeest and zebra. However this is where the
well-known and incredibly spectacular Great Migration happens each year.

Imagine watching around 300,000
zebra along with 1.5 million wildebeest and other antelope, along with
their young, joining up to head off of their long trek from the Serengeti
Plains up to the northern Masai Mara National Reserve, a journey of around
1,800 miles, in search of life-giving food and water.
While it
is a fascinating sight to watch, it is grueling for the animals themselves and
it is estimated that around 250,000 wildebeest don’t make it to their
destination, especially as several predators tend to join the migration,
including hyenas, leopards, lions and wild dogs, hoping to pick off a weak
animal for dinner.
This is
just a brief introduction into all that is on offer on this vast and
beautiful continent. Try a safari this year, camera in hand, and you will
not regret it.
