Lezzeno
The last village
on the way from Como to Bellagio is Lezzeno. With its many wards scattered
along the shore of the lake and at the foot of the mountains, Lezzeno is
also a renowned residential center. After the locality of Villa, on the
last stretch of road before Bellagio, one can see the Sassi Grosgalli.
These are scenic cliffs that jut out over the lake and they are full of
crevices caused by the erosion of the waters. It is worth taking a boat
trip to see the Grotta dei Bulberi or the Grotta Azzurra, which are caves
that are famous for the coloured effects sunlight has on them. Lezzeno
is also an important centre for craftsmanship. Iron wire and metal nets
are produced here and it also has shipyards. We know that the area was
already inhabited in Roman times from a fragment of a tombstone slab in
the wall of the parish bell tower with an inscription from the 1st-2nd
century AD.
