- About Vietnam
Vietnam is home to numerous
attractions such as ancient architecture, UNESCO world heritage sites,
high mountains, beautiful waterfalls, sunny beaches and a cluster of wonderful
places. It comes across as a country full of surprises. However, not much
was known about it so far.
Our pages of "About Vietnam"
are written with a hope that we will help you understand more about our
friendly people, rich culture and beautiful landscape. It will also help
you find the country as "a home away from home" by narrowing the gap of
culture and customs between yourself and the local people that you'll encounter
in your holiday. |

Vietnam embarked on the
Doi Moi (Renovation) in 1986. Since then, the country has seen dramatic
changes, first and foremost in the economic thinking.
The centrally-planned economy
was replaced by the socialist-oriented market economy; national industrialisation
and modernisation were initiated together with the policy of multilateralisation
and diversification of external economic relations, openness and international
integration.

The Doi Moi helped Vietnam
rapidly escape hunger and poverty and lay the initial foundation for an
industrialised economy, as well as maintaining a high growth rate and a
relatively equal society. Vietnam is now the world's largest robust coffee,
cashew nuts and pepper exporter, and the second largest rice exporter worldwide.
Today Vietnam is also an
outstanding travel destination. It is considered as a safe place in the
world that is as yet untouched by terrorism and tsunami. Vietnam has lured
more and more international arrivals. In 2005, Vietnam welcomed four million
arrivals and it is expected that the international arrivals will be eight
millions in 2010. The development of tourism industry in Vietnam brings
jobs to more than 234,000 people directly and an additional 510,000 indirectly
in associated business and industries.
With your help, we hope that
our dream of being the top ten major tourist destinations in the world
will come true in the next ten years. |
We are always opened to
your ideas to make our pages of "About Vietnam" more useful to people who
are going to travel to Vietnam or just interested in our people and culture.
